In order to review policies effectively, improve our services or undertake Equalities Impact Assessments, LA services need to consult regularly with equalities groups.

The Service has set up consultation structures with equalities groups. This takes the form of:

  • The CYPS BME Groups’ Consultation Forum (formerly LEA Race Forum)
  • The Inclusive Education Steering Group
  • The LA LGB Forum (called TEACH)
  • The Multi-Agency Refugee and Asylum Seeker Education Commissioning Advisory Group

Within CYPS, a strategic group of officers, managers and self organised groups, the CYPS Departmental Equalities Group, has been set up, chaired by Programme Director Ian McDowall, to lead work on equalities for the new Service.

In addition, the Council as a whole consults with external equalities groups through the:

  • Race Equality Forum
  • Disability Equality Forum
  • Women’s Forum
  • Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Forum
  • Young People’s Forum
  • Older People’s Forum

Young people's inter-faith Consultation

SACRE has employed a consultant who is working in partnership with the Equalities and Inclusion Team to develop inter-faith work with young people in Bristol schools. A questionnaire was sent out to Year 10s in 5 schools and the analysis can be accessed through the link. The results informed the development of a young People's Inter-faith conference on 28th March 2006 (see report).

A further conference is being held on 5th July 2007. For further information contact the address below.
