The Equalities and Inclusion Team and Governor Development Service are working in partnership to increase the number of BME governors in our schools.
A conference for BME governors was held in 2006 and it was agreed to establish a support network - see link for detailed recommendations. The BME Governors' Support Network meets monthly (see terms of reference) and can be contacted through Ruth Pickersgill, whose details are at the bottom of this page.
A positive action campaign has been undertaken to attract more BME people to become governors and the numbers have increased considerably in the last year. A series of positive action training courses are running in the summer of 2007 and are open to any existing BME governors or people interested in becoming governors.
