Aimed at: all social care practitioners planning to offer a student practice learning opportunity (placement) in the statutory, voluntary, independent or private sector
These courses are delivered three times a year and are essential preparation for anyone planning to work with social work students on their second or final level placements. Practitioners must complete one of these courses before the placement starts. You do not need to be a qualified social worker to work with a first year social work student.
The courses cover:
- supervision
- assessment
- approaches to adult learning
- requirements for the degree in social work (BSc(Hons)
- National Occupational Standards and the GSCC Codes of Practice
- anti-oppressive practice
- the practical tasks of setting up the placement, induction and observing practice
The first three days of the course allow you to act as a site supervisor, ensuring the student meets your agency's requirements. The student's portfolio is assessed by an off-site assessor.
Attending the first three days costs £180 and counts for 18 hours CPD and PRTL.
The full five day course enables you to work as a practice assessor with responsibility for both the agency requirements and portfolio assessment.
Attending all five days costs £300 and counts for 30 hours CPD and PRTL.
Dates
Monday 20th, Tuesday 21st & Friday 24th October, and Monday 17th & Tuesday 18th November 2008
Please state on your booking form whether you are applying for three or five days.
We may be able to offer small private and voluntary settings some reduction on the cost. Please contact us to discuss this before booking.
