Promoting healthier living and learning in Bristol
In Bristol, over 100 schools have already achieved National Healthy Schools Status and all schools in the City are now engaged with the Programme. We run the country's largest Certificate of Teaching PSHE Programme for Teachers and School Nurses, with over 100 participants having already gained their certification. Healthy Schools work has helped ensure a steady increase in the uptake of school meals since the new Standards for School Food were introduced, and been instrumental in supporting the development of school travel plans in the City.
All schools in Bristol are supported by the Bristol Healthy Schools Team both whilst working towards the award and once they are considered a healthy school. In addition to training and network meetings on specific areas of the programme including physical activity and healthy eating, schools can access a range of one-to-one support to address their specific needs.
