Children's Centres

A Children’s Centre is an early years and childcare setting which provides a range of high quality, early learning and childcare services to local families. It will be sited on or close to a primary school.

The key features of a children’s centre are

  • Day care and learning will always be integrated for the children, in the same place
  • A qualified Early Years Teacher will lead the development of learning within each centre
  • A range of parenting, family support and family health services will be available

In Bristol, 9 Children’s Centres were developed in Phase 1 of the programme (2004 - 2006) with a further 15 being developed in Phase 2 (2006 – 2008).

For more detailed information see our presentation on Children’s Centres in Bristol.

Please note - From 1st May 2008 the charges for day care places in Local Authority nurseries and Children’s Centres are changing – please refer to the file on the left “Children’s Centres Day Care Fees” for further details.
